Kinetic Community Re-launched on Latest MindTouch Release

Kinetic Data’s information hub for customers, Kinetic Community, was re-launched in early November. Kinetic Community is the place to find and discuss product documentation, videos, presentations, training class materials, downloads, example service items, task handlers, bundles, bridges, and presentations from past Kinetic Enthusiasts Group (KEG) events.

VMWare Handlers (July 17, 2014)

A collection of 14 handlers useful for interacting with VMWare VSphere, including VMWare VSphere Virtual Machine Check Status (given a task id, the handler checks the current status of that task) and VMWare VSphere Virtual Machine Clone (clones the given virtual machine).

Imgur Image Upload  (July 17, 2014)

This handler uses the REST Imgur API to upload a file to your Imgur account. Before using any Imgur handler for the first time, you will need to obtain a refresh token to connect to the account (instructions included here). After doing that, the handler will connect to that account and then upload the image. Title, Description, and the Album are all optional attributes.

Infoblox Create Record (July 17, 2014)

This handler uses the REST Infoblox API to create an A record (with the possibility to also create a PTR record). After configuring the handler with the URL where the Infoblox server is hosted at along with the username and password of an account with the correct permissions, the handler will start to build the hash of information to send to Infoblox.

BladeLogic CLI Handler (July 17, 2014)

The BladeLogic Command Run handler allows you to run most CLI commands against a BladeLogic app server. It accomplishes this by using the CLI Tunnel included with the BladeLogic web services.

Listing AD Groups for a User When Only SAMAccountName is Known (July 11, 2014)

First challenge: List all of the Active Directory groups the logged in user belongs to in a menu Second challenge: Do this only knowing their short/’samaccount’ username This article addresses both these issues at once, showing how to search the AD for groups, and how to do it when only knowing the SAMAccount username.

Kinetic Request Submission Format Answers HTML (June 26, 2014)

Builds a simple text and HTML result strings by formatting a specified subset of answers for the source Kinetic Request submission. To specify the answers to be formatted, various labels can be configured (the answers will be sequenced in the normal page order of their corresponding questions); for example, a starting question menu label (if the starting question is not provided, the first question of the service item will be used).

Kinetic Helper Record Create v2 (June 26, 2014)

Creates a record with the specified values in the KS_SRV_Helper form. This can be used, in conjunction with the other helper record handlers, to store data about a service item.

Majority Approval Task Process Example (March 19, 2014)

This example shows how to have an approval process that allows a majority vote or consensus for the task tree to continue on. Sometimes you may want to send an approval request to multiple people and based on how many of the approvers vote to either approve or deny the request that determines whether the request is actually approved or denied.

Active Directory Distribution List Member Retrieve (March 19, 2014)

Retrieves a comma delimited list of e-mail addresses (Belonging to People objects) that belong to a specified Distribution Group. This handler will use the server information and user credentials configured in the task info values to authenticate and connect to the specified Active Directory server (using LDAP) and search for the distribution group on the search parameters provided.

Add a Hyperlink to a Service Item (March 10, 2014)

Would you like to add a Hyperlink to my Service Item which will open a new Tab and display some related information? Here are samples and instructions. This example creates a Hyperlink which will take the end user to the Kinetic Data Web Site.

Jira Handlers (February 19, 2014)

Jira handlers have been added to community! These handlers interact with Jira, an issue and project tracking software, and allow you to interact with groups, create and delete issues in a Jira project, and create new  users.

How to Use the Data Management Console (February 7, 2014)

Here is the process behind deciding how to store and access data in the Data Management Console (DMC). This use case explains the process of storing information for a dynamic list in the DMC. In this use case there are three dynamic lists on a service item that need to display different options for different departments.

Multiple Checkbox Option Events (February 4, 2014)

A Customer has a requirement to use Multiple Checkbox Values to Insert and Remove another Question. A good use for this type of functionality would be on an Application Request Service Item. A sample Service Item is created to show how this functionality can be used.

Data Management Console (February 3, 2014)

The Data Management Console uses Kinetic Request and Task functionality to allow display and easy editing of data. The “data” can consist of items that support Kinetic Request processes, or can be data that just needs a better way of being edited/reviewed.

Kinetic Helper Record Update (January 31, 2014)

A new version of the Kinetic Helper Record Update handler has been loaded on Community. This version will update the specified record regardless of it’s status. This updates a specified record with the specified values in the KS_SRV_Helper form. This can be used, in conjunction with the other helper record handlers, to store data about a service item.

Kinetic Request Submission Close All Open (January 31, 2014)

Updates the Validation Status, the status that is displayed to the end user, and sets the Request Status to “Closed” for all open requests associated with the provided originating ID. This can be helpful in situations where a request has “children”, either child request, kinetic work orders, clones or other items that have the originating ID that all need to be closed. This prevents having to use a loop to do these at the end of these workflows.

BMC Remedy ITSM7 (January 30, 2014)

Handlers useful for interacting with BMC Remedy ITSM7 application. The following ITSM7 Work Order (WOI:WorkOrder) handlers are available on Community: BMC ITSM7 (SRM) Work Order Templated Create BMC ITSM7 Work Order Status Update BMC ITSM7 Work Order Work Info Create.

Google Calendar Adapter (January 26, 2014)

Handlers are useful for interacting with BMC Remedy ITSM7 application. The following ITSM7 Work Order (WOI:WorkOrder) handlers are available on Community: BMC ITSM7 (SRM) Work Order Templated Create BMC ITSM7 Work Order Status Update BMC ITSM7 Work Order Work Info Create.

Google Calendar Adapter (January 26, 2014)

Kinetic Calendar Google Adapter version 1.0 has been released. This adapter allows displaying event information from a Google calendar on your Kinetic Calendar.

HP Service Manager Handlers (January 14, 2014)

Handlers have been added to interact with the HP Service Manger. Currently uploaded handlers interact specifically with incidents, including creating, updating, and adding an activity to an incident.

Microsoft Exchange Appointment Create Handler (December 19, 2013)

This handler uses the Exchange Web Services to create an appointment in Exchange. After checking for various input errors, the handler starts formatting the inputted data so that it will be accepted in the CreateItem XML call to Exchange.

Date Time Compare (December 13, 2013)

How to compare two Date/Time Questions to ensure that one of the answers is less than another.  An example of this would be if you had a Start Date/Time question and an End Date/Time question.  In this situation you would want to ensure that the Start Date/Time answer is less than the End Date/Time answer.

Microsoft SharePoint Bridge (December 5, 2013)

The Microsoft SharePoint Bridge allows you to access data from the SharePoint platform, a web application platform developed by Microsoft. For basic information on how to deploy the SharePoint Bridge, see the Kinetic Data Bridging Getting Started Guide.

Rackspace Handlers (November 15, 2013)

Handlers used for interacting with Rackspace, an open cloud company, to create a server in the Rackspace cloud, delete a server, or create a new volume.

VMWare Bridge (Nobember 12, 2013)

The VMWare Bridge allows you to access data about Virtual Machines from your VMWare Server. For basic information on how to deploy the VMWare Bridge, see the Kinetic Data Bridging Getting Started Guide.

Dropbox Handlers (November 12, 2013)

A set of handlers which interact with Dropbox, to delete files, move files, share a URL for a file on Dropbox, upload a file, or create a Dropbox folder.

BMC Execute Process V2 (October 11, 2013)

Runs the Execute Process command on the AR System server. This handler works in both Kinetic Task 2.x and 3.x. You can use this task handler to execute Remedy AR System Run Process and $PROCESS$ commands.  The input parameters are: Command, the process command, and Wait for server response, which can be either “Yes” or “No” to indicate if the handler should wait for a response from Remedy server.

Kinetic Task v3.1.1 (October 10, 2013)

Fixes some bugs that were discovered in v3.1.0, and enhances the install wizard to ensure the Remedy server allows admin operations before trying to install the Remedy forms and workflow. This version is compatible with Kinetic Request v5.1 (with applied Task 3.0 compatibility package, available here) and other external data sources.

Kinetic Calendar SQL Adapter (October 7, 2013)

Each of the specific database adapters are extensions of the Generic JDBC Adapter.  Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) is a Java technology that provides an abstract interface for querying against different database systems, and requires basic configuration dependent on the target database vendor and version.

Performing Bridge Searches in JavaScript Functions (October 7, 2013)

Bridges can be used to populate Dynamic Lists, populate menus, set field dynamic defaults, or set-fields, but sometimes you want to populate a table or do something else that requires doing the bridge search via js. This article covers the details on the code necessary for doing a bridge search in a JavaScript function.

Troubleshooting PermGen Errors (September 19, 2013)

Options if you receive an error that tomcat is Out of Memory and the error references PermGen. PermGen memory is the space where the JVM stores the classes and methods data. If you start and stop tomcat a lot in a short time you can also receive this error. A minimum of 512mb with a recommended setting of 1024mb.
